What’s all this then?

Broad strokes: This is the inaugural MVP(minimum viable product) pilot for KynGarden[WT] and you are an inaugural participant, you special person, you!

The first MVP features for KynGarden are:

  • Welcome to Kyngarden – Sign-up, login, explore the dApp.
  • Wallet is created and accessible by you. – This is your personal digital wallet. It holds your self-sovereign identity. For now, it is stored entirely on your device.
  • Current happenings are listed. – See neighbors who want to hang out. Connect with them.
  • You can create a new happening. – Show that you want to hang out. Connect.

What's that mean, really?

More on KynGarden & Kyn

  • KynGarden[WT] is a hang-out dApp designed to help neighbors meet-up more fluidly.
Are you ready to hang out right now? Click. See who else is ready. Connect. Hang out.

    • [WT] = working title. This means the name is what we are using while we work on the dApp, but it may or may not be the final.
    • dApp = decentralized application. This is basically the same as an application but peer-powered instead of centrally stored and controlled.
  • KYN (Know Your Neighbors) is a community platform/toolbox that has been in development for quite a bit longer. It provides all the privacy, identity and peer-powered goodness.
  • KynGarden is built on top of KYN.

More on MVPs and Pilots

A MVP (minimum viable product) has:

  1. the bare minimum feature set needed to make a version of the product that we think will be useful for you, our audience.
  2. very little styling.
  • This means that the app can be changed more easily and rapidly as we get feedback from you.
  • How are things working? What is loved/hated? What should be next? Etc.
As we get feedback, the product will reflect that. 🙂

Pilot means a small scale launch of a product designed to test the viability of the concept & the product.

  • We’ve chatted with many of you for a while and think we’ve learned that helping neighbors connect more easily will be a big step towards making this the neighborhood we all want.
  • To us, KynGarden’s concept feels like a good place to start doing that.
It is centered around real life in-person connections. Its simple just-in-time real life life connection design avoids many typical social media downfalls.
  • This pilot is all about finding out if those things are true and if the whole thing works.

Will this be monetized?

Web42 is for-profit and we will be monetizing KYN and its dApps as they develop.

Monetization basically means earning revenue from some asset.
Many times this term is seen coupled with business practices that we consider unethical, like attention theft monetization (basically stealing your time and attention without your explicit consent, often after selling your digital self to the highest bidder.)

  • Web42 will never sell your data or steal your time.
  • As things develop, we do intend to facilitate you selling both and more, if you choose.
    • In fact, we will be exploring a number of Web4.2 options that allow you better options to easily monetize your digital and hardware assets.
    • We believe in the power of Web4.2. We believe in decentralizing not just hardware and software, but opportunities.
      • Web4.2 is just our term for a more fully decentralized web. For all you lovers of humorous geekdom, yes it is a Hitchhiker’s reference.
  • Web42 cannot track users.
    • This means that even if we want to or some corporate overlord takes us over, your data cannot be used without your explicit consent. It simply is not centrally accessible.
    • This also means we will be exploring some novel monetization options and seeing what works in a new internetworking environment that is healthier for you, our users.
  • We will start monetizing when the dApp feels ready for that.
    • To us, this means it is in a really good functional and technical place and has a good user base.
    • Our first monetization go will be really simple. We’ll be doing subscriptions [that are not tracked in-network] but are connected to fun and unique honor badges that you can wear with supporter pride in the network.

KYN (Know Your Neighbors) is a community platform/toolbox. Among other features, KYN provides privacy, identity and peer-powered goodness.

Where is my data? How secure is it?

Your digital self will be securely stored your way.
To begin, Kyn dApps will access your data in a secure locker on your device.
Your data will only be accessible at all when you are logged in on your device.

As the network grows so will your options – storage and access wise.
You’ll be able to store your data in mixed up bits and bytes across the community cloud, across specifically trusted peer devices, and more!

All data encrypted, by default. Only your secret keys can unlock your data. (Ursa)

Never worry about losing those keys. As the network grows, Kyn will help you make sure those keys are are even secure against you losing them. (DKMS key recovery)

With Kyn, secure your digital self simply, powerfully and flexibly.
Your balance. Your choice.

You own you. (Self-sovereign identity)

Your digital self. Your power. That is Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI.)

We at Web42 are not the creators of your digital self. Not even its holders.

You define your digital id, from core bits like your name and age, to certifications that you live someplace or are really good at baking pies. You decide how it gets held and used.

You can take it with you. (Meaningful interoperability and portability)

Portability & interoperability are human rights

We want you on Kyn because you want to be. If you don’t, you should be able to take as much as logistically possible and easily use it elsewhere.

Data silo’ing is not a valid competitive advantage. Kyn supports your basic rights to digital self portability & interoperability.

Some Geeky Bits N’ Bytes

To make this vision of self-sovereignty, portability, and interoperability a reality Kyn is being developed to the developing identity standards of ISO & Trust Over IP (ToIP) framework and W3C’s schema.org data schemas wherever applicable/possible.

Digital privacy, Real world safety (Community safe anonymity)

Your identity revealed your way. No tracking. No B.S.

Anonymity. Pseudonymity. Full identity. Flavors in-between.
Kyn supports them all.

Web42 will neither be able to track nor help track you.

Peer-Verified Self-Sovereign Identities (SSI)
Kyn’s SSI are randomly peer-verified to, at the least, belong to flesh-and-blood humans. Fewer bots and socks. More trust. Better interactions.

Doxxing Resistant
Doxxing happens when a person’s details, such as location, are released sans consent.

Kyn will anonymize your traffic, making your IP untrackable to individuals, including us. (novel TOR) Interactions side, it will also allow you to interact in most spaces anonymously, with different pseudonyms in different contexts & more, confounding many would-be doxxers.

Community Safe Anonymity
Should bad actors happen, random community groups can – with that hard to reach strong majority consensus – choose to unmask. (via a novel implementation of TOR)

Peer-power, Internet optional (Mesh and P2P)

If Kyn are around, you can connect.

Wherever you are.

Regardless of Internet access.
Regardless of cell access.

(with wifi or bluetooth device)

Decentralize all the things! Humanize all the things!

Kyn is built to be peer-powered.

Every phone, tablet, desktop & more of any person in your community can help make the network bigger & better.

In essence, every peer powers the community. Seamlessly. Voluntarily.

Web42, LLC is the company making the community coolness.

More to come…
